Working with Ai

With great power comes great responsibility, this is how I view AI. As designers and artists, we must approach new tools with both creativity and caution. AI is here to stay, so let's leverage it to enhance our work rather than let it do all the heavy lifting. It’s an incredibly powerful helper, from quickly mocking up concepts to helping clients visualize the final product. We're moving toward a future where a simple prompt could generate a finished product. Let’s embrace this technology and explore how we can effectively integrate it into our workflows. Below are some examples and thoughts on how we can use AI moving forward.

Let’s be honest, prompts are as common as 'Snapchat Filters.' These AI trends happen and BOOM!….everyone is jumping on board. Whether it’s turning ourselves into anime characters or the latest toy craze, the power is in our hands, and it’s only going to get better. Also, how adorable is my son’s toy? He’s a huge Capybara fan, which is why we named it 'The Capy King.' I love how impressive AI is, it even captured his little Capy sandals perfectly! This was all prompted using ChatGPT-4.

Testing AI with my illustration

The more I play with AI, the more I like it. I tested this cartoon workflow. It still has some kinks to work out but take a peek at this experiement.

The Gatorade Experiment

For this final example, I challenged myself to create a social media post for Gatorade using only prompts and a stock photo of their product. AI did not disappoint. While there will always be a need for client-driven tweaks and adjustments, it’s clear that, when you're pressed for time and need a social post up quickly, AI is an incredibly valuable tool for getting the job done with minimal design effort. The more I play with AI the closer I get to my results. This took 2 different prompts and a bit of photo shop work to get it right. But this is basically where AI is headed.

The Final Result is Ah-Mazing!

I created the final mockup on a phone, simulating it as if it were displayed on Gatorade’s social channel. The results are undeniable. While it's not perfect, some details from the original label are missing but the potential is clear. Once perfected, we’ll be able to seamlessly mock up designs with ease. In this case, working with a 3D artist would still be ideal for controlling movement and color. However, this mockup serves as a great tool for presenting concepts to clients quickly.
